Police in India are investigating horrifying allegations that a young woman was violently raped, threatened at gunpoint and forced to abort her unborn baby.
The Week reports the 19-year-old and her mother went to a police station Saturday in Hasanpur, Amroha, India, carrying her aborted baby in a bag.
Police said they claimed a young man, Manoj Kumar, 22, in their neighborhood raped the young woman at gunpoint about five months ago. DNA reports the young woman said she was in the woods collecting firewood when Manoj followed her and raped her.
She said Manoj threatened to kill her family if she told anyone about the rape. According to police, she did not tell anyone, because she was afraid; but when she became pregnant, she could not hide it anymore from her family.
She claimed Manoj also learned about her pregnancy, forced entrance into her home and pulled a gun on her on July 13. Then, he allegedly forced her to swallow abortion drugs to kill their unborn baby, the local news reports.
Police said when the young woman’s mother found out, she took her daughter to the police station Saturday.
Now, police said they are running forensic tests on the aborted baby and looking for Manoj, who is on the run, according to the report.
Police said their investigation is on-going.
Sexual abuse is a huge problem in India, with 20,000 cases of sexual assaults reported in 2015, according to government data reported by AFP. In April, a very similar case occurred in the Satna district of Madhya Pradesh when police said another young rape victim walked into their police station carrying her aborted baby in a bag. The 16-year-old told police that she had been raped repeatedly and then forced to abort her unborn child.
Forced abortion is a horrific abuse that brutally destroys an unborn baby’s life and violently damages a mother’s. Forced and coerced abortions happen more frequently than abortion activists would like to acknowledge.

Earlier this year, at least two other cases of alleged forced abortion were reported in India. One involved a young woman whose Punjabi teacher allegedly raped her and then forced her to abort her unborn child in an attempt to cover up the abuse.
But forced and coerced abortions are a problem in the United States, as well. Often in cases of sexual abuse and sex trafficking, victims are forced to abort their unborn babies by their abusers. As LifeNews previously reported, one study found that as many as 64 percent of post-abortive women say they felt pressured to have an abortion.
