Conversation Starter Jokes for Kids – connecting and laughing

connecting with kidsHave you entered the “Knock Knock” phase yet? We are firmly entrenched in it but most of the jokes the kids tell make no sense.

One of our favorite things while we’re driving lately is making up and telling jokes.  The kids LOVE when I will teach them jokes and listen to their jokes. They practice so they can tell their friends.

We’ve also found that jokes are such an easy conversation starter. What better way to get talking than to start with a laugh?

A few of our favorite jokes around here are:

  • Why did the rooster cross the road? ……………..The chicken was on vacation!”
  • “Knock knock…………..Who’s there?……….. Ach…………..Ach who?………….. Bless you! You sneezed!”
  • “Knock knock………… Who’s there?……….. Woo………….. Woo who?……….What are you so excited about?”
  • What do you get when you cross Bambi with a ghost?……………BamBOO!
  • What’s brown and sticky?……………A stick!!

Here are a few fun books that have great conversation starter jokes:

The Try Not to Laugh Challenge: Joke Book for Kids and Family  – You might have seen some of the Try not to Laugh YouTube videos with your kids. This joke book has taken that concept and turned it into an interactive game you can play with kids, or that siblings can play together.

Laugh-Out-Loud Jokes for Kids – This joke book is inexpensive and a bestseller.

The Everything Kids’ Giant Book of Jokes, Riddles, and Brain Teasers – The great things about this book is that it includes riddles and brain teasers as well, which are always fun for starting conversations. This would be a good one to bring on a trip so you have a variety of things to think and laugh about in the car. So long as you can handle a constant stream of jokes from the back seat.

Ok, your turn- what kid friendly joke do you love?
